WYRE FOREST CANOE CLUB |
IntroductionWyre Forest Canoe Club is a small independent club based in Bewdley. The aim of the club is to promote the sport of canoeing, providing maximum enjoyment in a safety conscious environment. We have been a thriving organisation for a number of years and have a membership of approximately 100 paddlers. We are able to provide taster sessions for those wishing to try the sport for the first time. The club has a number of coaches and trainee coaches, at various levels, who attend the club meetings where their experience can be used. The club organises paddles on different grade rivers throughout the country, these range from flat water paddles to grade three rivers. These rivers include the Severn, the Teme and for the more experienced, the Treweryn in Wales. Each year the club organises some white water weekends away. In recent years we have paddled the River Dart in Devon and rivers in Cumbria. Again, the equipment can be hired for these trips. In addition to these paddles, the club organises social events, where partners, parents and children can get to know each other. Pool sessions at Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre run during the winter months, new members are welcome to come along to any pool session where they will be most welcome, all you need is a swimming costume as all equipment is provided. A newsletter, which gives information about the club activities and also includes reports on recent paddles, is distributed quarterly. We are always interested to hear what the new canoeist has to say and would welcome articles for inclusion in the newsletter. |
